Nei pressi del Duomo di Serravalle si trova la scalinata
monumentale che conduce al Santuario di Santa Augusta,
sulla sommità del Monte Marcantone.

La leggenda vuole che Santa Augusta fosse figlia del [B]Re goto Madrucco[/B], del cui antico castello sono ancora visibili i resti; a causa della fede cristiana, la ragazza venne martirizzata dal padre con il fuoco, la ruota e la spada.

A [B]metà percorso [/B]si incontra il luogo dove, secondo la tradizione, la Santa, sorpresa dal padre, trasformò in fiori il pane per i poveri del borgo.

I [B]sette oratori [/B]lungo la via furono edificati dai Serravallesi per sciogliere un voto fatto alla santa che preservò la città dalla peste nel 1630.

Al termine della salita, dopo l’ultima torre, si trova la scalinata che porta al [B]sagrato[/B] del Santuario: ricostruito nel 1450 esso conserva un altare con le reliquie della Santa, che si ritiene guarisca le malattie legate alla testa.
